A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

And a coffee, made just how you like it.

As an individual with your own aspirations, goals and challenges, the specific route we take to reaching your goals will be unique to you. That’s why we don’t start with your money; we start with what you want to do with it.

The specific route you will take to your goals will be tailored exclusively to you. However, we also know that structure is essential when it comes to planning. Our five-step approach to long-term financial independence and security keeps things simple and structured, while still allowing us to produce an exceptionally personalised service.

Put simply, it empowers you to take control of your future.

An initial meeting

Our very first meeting together is a chance for us to understand your objectives and circumstances and establish whether you will benefit from our advice. It is also a chance for you to get to know us better; how we work, what we do and whether we will be able to help you.

We will talk about your assets and your expenses but also about you, your goals and how you would like to live.

Following our meeting, we will produce a proposal that highlights how we think we can help and outline the priorities that we believe we should focus on, along with the fees that will apply if you decide to work with us.

There is no charge for this introductory meeting and you are under no obligation to take our relationship any further.

Next step

Discovery and lifestyle financial coaching

If you decide we’re right for you and you wish to proceed, we will arrange another meeting to further explore your finances and your goals. We will give you full access to the Aretian team for ongoing advice, account maintenance and client services. You will be provided with access to our secure client portal, a comprehensive app that allows you to view all your financial information in one place.

During our second meeting, we will explore your current financial picture in more detail, looking at your assets, liabilities, income and expenditure. We’ll ask you to provide details of your current financial arrangements; any pensions, investments and savings you have set up.

Next step

Building your financial plan

Once we have established your financial planning aims and objectives, and we have the details of your current arrangements, we will move on to analysis. This is where we ‘crunch the numbers’ and undertake in-depth research into your options for achieving your goals. We may employ cash flow modelling technology where we believe this will bring clarity to what may be relatively complex arrangements or goals.

You will then be presented with our findings, along with our recommendations for the specific actions we believe are necessary for you to undertake to achieve your goals. This is your detailed, personalised financial planning report.

Next step

Implementation

If you wish us to proceed, we will implement the recommendations we have agreed on. We will confirm all arrangements, take as much of the legwork from you as possible, and keep you updated on our progress at every stage.

Next step

Our ongoing services

Life doesn’t stand still for long. There will be changes in taxation, the markets, regulation and the economy and you will almost certainly experience changes to your own life and circumstances. Over time, your goals may change along with your priorities. So, it’s important to make sure that your financial plan can adapt and that it remains up to date and responsive when changes occur.

Our ongoing financial planning services allow you to gain long-term security and confidence. As part of this service, you maintain access to our advisers whenever you need them along with regular, scheduled reviews where we will monitor progress towards your goals and make adjustments wherever needed.

With our ongoing investment oversight service, you gain peace of mind that your investments are being kept under regular review. As part of this service, we will update your portfolio as and when required to optimise performance and ensure your arrangements remain appropriate for your objectives, and aligned to the level of risk you are comfortable with.

We believe in complete transparency and openness when it comes to fees. If you have questions about what we charge for our services, go ahead and

Our conversations centred around what I wanted to achieve, and it then became about working out how I’d get that. My goal was financial freedom. I didn’t have that when we first met, but I’m glad to say, I do now.

I met Nick a few years ago, via an introduction from a close friend. I was at the stage in my life where I really needed to think more strategically about my finances, and planning for the future and ultimately my retirement.

I know that I am in good hands and that my finances are being looked after by someone I trust which gives me huge peace of mind. What I particularly value is the care that Paul gives – he is proactive, responsive and always makes time to listen and explain everything really clearly.

Having the financial part of my life squared away gave me the confidence I needed to start my own company. I wouldn't have had the confidence that I have the money, or the bandwidth to take this step otherwise.

Paul has helped us plan for our children’s futures. He advised us on school fees, how to plan for our children going to university, and we’ve gone through all life scenarios and said, in each one, are we secure? What do we need to do to ensure we would be secure in that situation?
